Our story begins in the fall of 2001. Joel & I had both been living in the Burlington area for a couple years when we met through a mutual friend. We hit it right off! In May of 2005 we bought our house in Essex Junction. With apartment living behind us, we could now have a dog – or two. We got Jack in July, and we got Mason in September. This is our family! We got married in Stowe in 2010.

A few years after we got married we started looking for a camp. I wanted waterfront and Joel wanted acreage. It seemed unlikely we’d ever find both within our budget, but we were somehow fortunate enough to stumble onto the property in Benson. In December of 2015 Joel got his ten acres, I got my waterfront on Lake Champlain, and the dogs got their retirement home!

We fell right in love with this property and this region of the state, and it wasn’t long until we were dreaming about living down here year round. At one point Joel asked me if I’d ever live in a warehouse, and I told him I wouldn’t mind that. Joel had started doing a lot of tinkering around with old Honda motorcycles and wanted space for that and other projects. The next thing you know we’re taking weekend road trips to look at commercial buildings for sale around the area!
I wasn’t sold on the warehouse in Fair Haven at first. If memory serves, I didn’t even get out of the car the first time we went there! By the time we were actually considering it, it was taken off the market to be put up for auction. So, last September we went to our first auction! The story of the warehouse purchase is a story best told by Joel. All sorts of things can delay a closing, so all sorts of things delayed our closing until spring of 2019.
The 5,000 square foot warehouse was formerly an Agway store and a grainery before that. There is a 1,500 square foot section that was the retail area which we will be renovating into our “warehome.” The warehouse is already home to over two dozen motorcycles. I’ll be finding my space for spinning and weaving and listening to records.
We are very excited about the process of making our warehouse a warehome, and we’ll try to post progress updates on our home page. We’ll also post blogs of weaving, wildlife, photography, and motorcycle stuff.
So, that’s our story!
